Local Benefits


In addition to providing a brand new industry for Imperial County, the Mesquite Regional Landfill will offer a wide range of benefits for Imperial County and its residents including:

• More than 250 new jobs when in full operation

• $12 million annual payroll at full operation

• Host fees paid to Imperial County:
   – $100,000 annually at initial operation of 300 tons of waste a day
   – $1.2 million when operations reach one train a day
   – More than $17 million a year at full operation

• Capacity of 1,000 tons of waste per day reserved for Imperial County

• An average of $6 million annually in local purchases at full operation

• Portion of revenues from energy production

• More than $600,000 in benefits from avoided agricultural waste burning

• Nearly 4,000 acres of undeveloped land set aside in perpetuity for protected species

• $100 million to complete construction of initial landfill infrastructure

• Property taxes on the landfill property

• $20,000 for development of a call box system (or equivalent) along Highway 78

• $20,000 to help fund the Imperial County Geographic Information System (GIS)

• $40,000 for two wildlife guzzlers
